NEW HAGAR TOWNSHIP PRECINCT BOUNDARY

MCL 168.658 and MCL 168.661 were amended to increase the maximum size of a single precinct on election day from 2999 to 4999 voters. Hagar Township has 2878 registered voters (as of 12/6/2023). Under both old and newly-amended versions of the law, Hagar Township is only required to have one precinct.

Therefore, a public meeting of the Hagar Township Election Commission was held on Monday October 11, 2023 to pass a resolution consolidating Hagar Township's two voting precincts. The new boundary encompasses the entire township to create one, single precinct – Hagar Township Precinct 1.

Former Hagar Township Precinct 2 voters will receive new Voter ID/Information cards (via direct mail) with updated precinct information. Address data was sent to the printer on 12/14. Cards will be sent from the printer approximately two weeks after printing is complete.

The polling location remains the same:
Hagar Township Hall    3900 Riverside Road    Benton Harbor, Michigan 49022

NOTES:

•  This change does not affect school district boundaries. They are directly linked to street addresses — not precincts.

•  Hagar Township will retain its 2 county commissioners. Redrawing precinct lines does not change district boundaries. The area North of Coloma Rd (formerly Precinct 2) will remain in District 3. The area South of Coloma Rd remains in District 1.

•  The number of Precinct Delegates does not change. They are determined by the total number of registered voters in the Township.
